John Dobbin is a Scottish artist, born and educated in Glasgow (Gorbals). He left school with basic qualifications but more recently acquiring qualification in the study of fine art.

John had work in various jobs from health care to market research never finding contentment and blighted by an affliction for the amber nectar. Art was to be the recuperation his spirit needed and has since gone on to produce large body of work, returning to his first love, Art.

For the last seven years there has been a consistent flow of work, passion and emotion in his work, bringing light into darkness. His work is wide ranging, figurative and environmental mostly working in oil to mixed media.

Over the last few years John’s figurative work has been widely coveted and continues to grow.

I define myself as a figurative draftsman, painter. The prime mover of creativity of all my art is the Platonic Soul of the figure. The source for creativity radiates outward from the heart of the figure - outward into every part of my paintings. The figure or figures give artistic life to the art and human meaning to the viewer. The Platonic Soul guides this maker in creating timeless form. Commensurability is the primary aesthetic force that breathes timelessness into the artistic idea.
